Each submitted review contributes signal strength and call-reliability ratings for a specific location and carrier. Data speed is calculated from an attached carrier-verified speed test rather than a subjective rating.

How Cellintel scoring works
Cellintel turns real-world community reports into an easy carrier comparison. The goal is not to claim perfect coverage everywhere—it is to show what people are actually experiencing and how much evidence supports the result.

COVERAGE CONFIDENCE
How much evidence supports the ranking?
Coverage Confidence is separate from carrier performance. A carrier can rank first in an area while confidence remains limited when only a few reports exist. Confidence increases with report volume, verified testing, contributor diversity and recent activity.

HOW THE SCORE IS CALCULATED
Real-world data performance leads the score
Each review score uses three components when available: 20% signal strength, 50% measured data speed, and 30% call reliability. If a verified speed test is not attached, the score is calculated from the available signal and call evidence without inventing a data-speed value.
- Signal strength — 20%: useful coverage context, but it does not outweigh real-world performance.
- Data speed — 50%: the largest component, calculated automatically from a carrier-verified download test.
- Call reliability — 30%: the reported calling experience at that location.
The verified download result converts to a 1–5 data score using the existing Cellintel scale: below 40 Mbps is in the 1-point range, 40–99 Mbps in the 2-point range, 100–199 Mbps in the 3-point range, 200–299 Mbps in the 4-point range, and 300 Mbps or faster receives 5.0. Values scale gradually within each range.
Upload speed and latency are printed as supporting evidence but do not currently change the weighted carrier score. Cellintel does not sell a carrier a better position in local rankings.
